A powerful storm is raging in large parts of Austria at the beginning of the weekend. Especially from East Tyrol over Upper Styria to the lowlands, a strong northwesterly wind is blowing with partly stormy gusts.
On the mountains, gale-force winds were also measured in isolated cases, such as on the Ötscher with up to 140 km/h. In the valleys, gusts of up to 100 km/h have been recorded so far in Mariazell, while in the lowlands, for example in Wiener Neustadt, gusts of up to 83 km/h were recorded.
In the north and east, rain, snow and sleet showers moved through, especially in the first half of the day, with strong westerly winds. In Schwechat, 90 km/h were measured. In Vienna, the storm swept across the city at 83 km/h.
The storm then takes a break on Saturday before peaking on Sunday.
